SMITH ON STIRRER TV AS BEARS DEFEND BOOK BAN

19-05-2007

Former Warwickshire all-rounder Paul Smith has been telling The Stirrer that his new book “Wasted” which has been banned at Edgbaston isn’t meant to hurt anyone. Meanwhile the club have been explaining why they won’t stock it in the club shop.

Paul Smith - Wasted

As we reported yesterday, Smith’s book is critical of the Warwickshire hierarchy in the mid-1990’s who he accuses of turning a blind eye to drug-taking by former wicket-keeper Keith Piper - now on the club’s coaching staff. Smith also accuses "Pipes" of wrecking his marriage.(see our report here)

Explaining Warwickshire’s ban, chief executive Colin Povey told us: “I don’t think we need to be carrying it in the club shop. It’s not really flattering and I don’t think we need to be dragging up issues that happened ten to fifteen years ago.

“It’s not really appropriate for us to be carrying it.”
