Spotted this on a post box in Moseley t'other day.

The Scientologists have a cunning plan, apparently, for Pitmaston Court

Image

Should we be concerned or will we have a visit from Tom Cruise and Sharon Stone?

I have seen no evidence to support the claim that the Scientologists want to move into Pitmaston House (or the Ideal Benefit building).

The building was purchased by Woodview Properties Limited of the Isle of Man in October 2007.

I haven't done a Companies House search of the company to establish the individuals behind this company. I have however googled the company name and haven't seen any links between this company and the Church of Scientology.

Well someone's got a bee in their bonnet about it to go to the length of printing and posting stickers. Maybe there's nowt in it but a bit strange.

I saw a more detailed version of this poster on the junction between Moorcroft Road and Reddings Road. It seems to have been torn down now.

I thought the Ideal building was being converted into flats?

The Ideal Insurance building has had various planning applications made for it. I think they'll end up converting to apartments and building a selection of exec style houses in the grounds. Can't remember how many are now planned. There's also a plan to build two extra houses in Goodby - there's a space in the numbering as well as the land.
I bet BCC has their eye on that lovely land used for allotments at the back of Pitmaston as well.

What difference should it make if they do?
If this leaflet has said 'stop the Muslims moving into Mosely;' it would have been ripped it down rather than photographed, and we would be complaining about the BNP stirring up trouble.

Freedom of religion covers Scientology - and Jediism too  And dont forget Mr Chickens religion ; the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Daily Mailers .

You'd struggle as the company is not based in this jurisdiction. What WBB says.

Fair point WBB. I'm ambivalent about it. I thought it was interesting that someone's goat had obviously been attacked.

BTW I should have spelt Mosley as Moseley

I have an agreement with god. She doesn't bother me and I don't bother her - even if she came out of a spaceship.
As long as they don't knock at my door and expect a welcome!!

WBB: Just goes to show in the words of Jimi Hendrix " You just can't believe everything you see and hear, now can you?"

Dominic: Beer? Hardy's Voyage £7 a pair!

At those prices I can see I'm not in Prague any more. Actually, I'm going off to bed after I do one more post.

Frankly, I'd welcome the Scientology bunch taking over Pitmaston House rather than having this glorious building defaced and torn asunder to accommodate yet more bloody apartments. You can turn away the Scientologists; you have to live hand in glove with maybe hundreds of trendy, fly-by-night flat-dwellers.

Is the Ideal Insurance Building known as Pitmaston House?

As I said, the one I saw has indeed been torn down.

I don't have any time for scientologists but I did find the tone somewhat shrill and inflammatory, even if it had any basis in fact.

Er... how does that differentiate them from the Christians?

It will be good to have the Scientologists back in Moseley. They make a nice cup of tea and talk about lizards.
