After years of saying he will, he has finally done it, despite claiming the polls show Labour will hold the seat, all be it with a reduced majority.

very strange , Bruce is my MP, no problems with the expenses, very clean, good local reputation, very good MP

also had a recent mailer saying how delighted he was to be standing again

So we will have a vote then on the new PPC, going to be an imposed list, interesting

a parachute candidate ?

That's a scoop. Thanks for the exclusive. Funnily enough I was talking to a former MP the other day about whether he thought any more MPs would be standing down. He doubted it. This is very late in the day to be throwing the towel in.

A commenter on UK Polling may have just beat hackedoff to the story.

I can't claim an exclusive, the local papers have already got the story (though none are on the streets yet) but I will suggest an all women list of candidates is a strong possibilty.

I think in this case, it is just Walsall's turn to have an all women list.
But any MP from whatever party will have a strong interest in who takes over (though of course, the voters have the last say….Thank God) and stepping down at the right time can greatly improve the chances of the MP's preferred ‘successor.'

It's probably that he remembers what opposition is like. ;)

I suppose he would have to do it from memory.

There's no point looking for tips on opposition amongst the shambles that has supposed to be doing it for the last 13 years.

Here you go. My sources suggest it's an attempt to thwart Mohammed Nasir's parliamentary ambitions http://www.thestirrer.co.uk/february10/ ... 80210.html

What on earth will Washington Central do to elect a new representative?

There's a reason why the Conservatives are called the natural party of government. Better for you lot to return to your roots in opposition.

It is being reported that it will be an AWS which supports the Stirrer's theory.

This guy is 68 years old another five year term will make him 73
if the next parliament goes the full five years he has a very good
pension so why should he not retire if he wants to ?

Many people retire at 60 or even 55 if they can afford to and no
doubt he will either get a part time job in the house of lords or at
BQ if he wants.

Or do all members of parliament have to die in office ?

Walsall's sitting Conservative MP, Richard Shephard, will also be 68 this year but I don't think you will find him retiring soon. Partly because he loves the job (which I've got to admit he is good at) but also because the local Tories are just as divided as the Labour Party with different sides loathing each other.
