PINTS OF VIEW (Merry Hill pub, Wolverhampton)

14-11-2008

t’s a simple concept – a few beers and the chance to quiz a local decision maker. Geoff Jellis tells us all about Pints of View.

Hosted by St Joseph’s Church, Pints of View is an increasingly-regular evening of topical discussion at the pub, with guest panellists and a chance to show how the faith relates to what’s happening in the news.

It’s open to all - male, female, Christian, atheist, whatever (although you need to be legal in the pub!). You don’t even have to have a pint.

The format is simple - two or three knowledgeable people are put on bar stools in the back room and the audience gets to ask them questions about a topic. Past guests have included Rob Marris MP, Andrew Ritchie (a local magistrate), Phill Ball of West Midlands Police and our very own Revd Phil Cansdale.

The night is run in a friendly and informal manner and contributions are welcome from everyone.
The next event is at 7.30pm for 7.45pmonNovember 16th at The Merry Hill at Five Ways - just across the road from St Joseph’s Church.

We’ve got Councillor Robin Lawrence (chair of the youth committee for Wolverhampton City Council, and a full-time teacher), Dave Webb (a policeman on secondment to the Prince’s Trust’s work with City of Wolverhampton College) and Laura Perry (an experienced Youthworker who will add a welcome young-and-female perspective) on the panel.

The discussion will be centred around young people, their place in the world, how we perceive them, how we support them, and how we give them a strong value base that can give them the foundations they need in a complex world.
