ROOTSY UB40 PLAY DIGBETH PUB GIG

13-10-2009

Reggae superstars UB40 get back to their Birmingham pub gig roots by playing next month at The Rainbow in Digbeth – a venue which has been threatened with a noise abatement order.

The concert has been organised under the banner “Music As Culture”, an offshoot of the lively blogging community at Birmingham City University - the one educational establishment in the region which has truly immersed itself in web culture.

Although part of the plan is to help raise cash for a new soundproofing roof for the courtyard of The Rainbow there is, of course, the wider issue of how the city manages regeneration without destroying the special fabric of an area like Digbeth.

UB40’s sax player Brian Travers said on Twitter: “We have to turn this thing into a HUGE ISSUE...fight for our right to have some culture.”

The gig is on November 3. Ticket details to follow.
