A KICK UP THE ARTS 19-02-2008
Whether you want to be included in the West Midlands biggest photo album, be recognised as one of the faces of West Bromwich or have your say over a new public art work in Rowley Regis - you’ve come to the right place. www.inthebigpicture.co.uk is an Arts Council England project aimed at getting as many snaps as possible from around the region into one giant montage. Organisers say they’d even like to stitch together more than 100,000 images and create the world’s biggest "picture of pictures" – but for now being the biggest in Brum and the Black Country will do. It couldn’t be simpler – just head to the website and upload Flickr style. The aim is simply to get as many people as possible involved in an arty project. Which is just fine by us. Meanwhile the ever excellent community arts team at multistory have a couple of projects on the go in the Black Country. This Friday they’re inviting anyone with an interest in helping create a landmark piece of public art in Rowley Regis (covering Cradley Heath and Old Hill, Tividale, Blackheath and Rowley) to pop in and have their say. Just turn up at the Britannia Centre in Rowley between 12.30 and 3.30. The final piece will be produced after consultations with local schools and other community groups, but they want everyone in the area to be involved. For a taste of what they can do, check out “Telling Tales Alight” which was beamed onto The Hawthorns railway station last year Multistory are also behind this week’s “Seek My Face” exhibition at West Bromwich Town hall, featuring 25 portraits by local artist Shaun Morris and designed to show some of the town’s most amazing characters. It runs until Friday. |
