STIRRER CITED IN LATEST MULLANEY STANDARDS PROBE

01-05-2008

Cllr Martin Mullaney

Controversial Birmingham councillor Martin Mullaney has been reported to the Local Government Standards Board – again! The latest complaint follows comments made on The Stirrer.

Developer Safdar Zaman claims that Mullaney has been conducting “vindictive and personal attacks” against him on this website as well as his own blog.

The row dates back to a previous Standards Board hearing in March.

Mullaney and fellow Liberal Democrat councillor Ernie Hendricks were found to have trespassed while making a film highlighting the alleged poor maintenance of the old tram shed in Moseley – owned by Mr Zaman.

Hendricks refused to apologise and is now serving a month’s suspension, while Mullaney is appealing against the verdict.

Zaman claims that since then he has used The Stirrer, “to launch a furious misleading attack against me commencing on the day of the hearing”.

He adds: “Cllr Mullaney’s behaviour towards myself is totally unacceptable and such a standard one would not expect from a serving member of the Council.

"I personally find Cllr Mullaney's conduct offensive and which is affecting my good reputation in the community and my professional standing; furthermore, this is causing significant distress to my family."

He’s calling for, “protection from an individual who is using his office and position to orchestrate a personal campaign against me.”

Mullaney said that he hasn’t even seen the letter and commented, “I’ll deal with it when I get it.”
