Sylvia King is best known as the inspiration behind the controversial Public Arts Centre in West Bromwich. Financial problems have delayed the project, and Sylvia left her job as Chief Executive in 2006. But what's she been up to since?

In an exclusive interview with The Stirrer, she reveals that she's been working for the nuclear waste agency Nirex.

This might sound like a quantum(!) leap for a woman who made her name as a community arts worker, but Sylvia explains that it's not as different as all that.

She's using the experience gained on some of the most deprived estates in Europe to talk to people in towns and cities who might be asked to store radioactive waste within their community.

Sylvia is no apologist for the nuclear industry but argues that, like it or not, we have all enjoyed the benefits of the power it has generated, and as the waste is here now we have to find a way of dealing with it.
