STIRRER HOSTS TAKING LIBERTIES DEBATE 26-06-2007 Make a date in your diary…Stirrer editor Adrian Goldberg is hosting a post-show discussion after a screening of the hit documentary Taking Liberties next Monday. The final guest list has yet to be confirmed, but Dr David Nicholl, one of the stars of the film (and a regular blogger on this site) will be there, and we’re hopeful that ex Guantanamo Bay detainee Moazzam Begg will join us. An invite has also been extended to the director, Bromsgrove lad Chris Atkins. Talking to The Stirrer recently, he explained the political re-awakening which had motivated him to make the film: “I grew up in the Thatcher era, when there were more than three million on the dole. It was really bad back then. It really polarised the country. Those Tory years hurt a lot of people. “But once Blair was elected, I stopped reading the newspapers, or watching Newsnight. I though everything was all fine. It took a few years before we woke up. “Iraq changed everything, and in 2004/05 started getting political again. I realised that for 6 or 7 years the country had gone to sleep and all these laws had been passed, reducing our liberty.” To see blogger Dave Woodhall’s review click here And to read The Stirrer’s review click here Tickets for this special Q&A session are on sale now at MAC - call 0121 440 3838 or go online to www.macarts.co.uk And if you’ve seen Taking Liberties, add your comments to our thread on the News Section of the Message Board. |
