In these days of green house gasses
we need to remove those rose-tinted glasses
so that we can see through the windows
of glass-house Commons transparencies
And then we can all be clear on this
that when Whitehall demands that the
citizens of this liberal isle
who already have so much information on file
are asked to supply fingerprints and DNA
iris patterns and health risk assessments
for the possibilities of a coup d’etat
that we should think twice in sharing
with those guilty pleasure politicians
and they know who they are
who swill well at the trough and
whose expenses never seem enough
to stretch taxation fabric to that luxury recliner
or feed the who-so-ever’s at a pricey diner
before landing their expanding waistlines
on memory foam adjustable beds
or run their feet through shagpile extravagances
I hope that they remember
that one day, just one day
the people of this country
will get their day of reckoning
when they add up the tax bill
at the end of a long week
a long month
a long year
and see that they are taxed
on what they earn
taxed on what they save
taxed on what they buy
taxed on what they sell
taxed on the amount of tax
taxed on everyday necessities
taxed on being old
taxed on being sick
taxed on being disabled
taxed on being poor
taxed on services
taxed on wanting to get on
taxed on dying
and taxed on just about everything in between
before being taxed to death
and then taxed on death
and I hope that at some point
these people whom we should look up to
these people we vote in through democracy
will have the good grace and decency
to show us all
without quibble
and justify without secrecy
where the bloody hell
our hard-earned money is going
