ANYONE FOR TENNIS? NOT IN HARBORNE

23-02-2008

Tennis

The Stirrer recently highlighted the disgraceful state of some of Birmingham’s tennis courts - especially Queen’s Park in Harborne. We’ve discovered that it’s not only the nets that have been stolen - so have the posts supporting them

Local councillor Deirdre Alden who read our original piece “Anyone For Tennis” (see link here) did a little bit of checking after we said the Queen’s Park courts were the worst we visited.

She said: “I have spoken to the officers. It would appear the posts and nets at Queens Park have been stolen ‘lock, stock and barrel’ as it were.

“New ones will be ordered in the new financial year ready for the summer season, when the courts will also be swept and cleaned.

“It's a shame when the money which the Council has for such facilities has to be spent on replacing things which weren't worn out - but stolen.

“There's never going to be so much left for routine improvements when this is the case.”
