BOURNVILLE B DAY 26-03-2007 Residents in Birmingham's famously ‘dry' Quaker village of Bournville will find out today whether Tesco's application to operatethe first off-licence in the area is successful. In the meantime, we've got pictures of the vandalism already taking place there. We've reported previously about the campaign to prevent the sale of booze at a new Tesco Express on Linden Road (see our last article here); our community correspondents have also told us about the extent of alcohol-related vandalism in nearby Cotteridge. Even without the impetus of cheap booze, youngsters have taken to defacing and even burning the rest house on Bournville Green. To see what they've done, click here. Hundreds of local residents have signed a petition calling on Birmingham City Council to reject Tesco's application. For first news on the Bournville decision, check out The Stirrer later. |
