Pogus Caeser

Photographer and movie director Pogus Caesar is one of the West Midlands most under-rated cultural figures. This retrospective show, covering some of his snaps over the last quarter of a century, should go a long way to rectify that.

After making his mark as a painter, selling his pictures at Birmingham’s rag market, Pogus broke through to the photographic world in 1985 when he captured some of the most enduring images of the Handsworth Riots.

Stevie Wonder, Desmond Tutu and the late RnB singer Aaliyah have all come in view of his lens since then, while since the '90s he’s developed a career in film-making.

He’s currently directing his latest feature “The Diver” – a political thriller – in Morrocco, Spain and Gibraltar.
