TWO STABBED AFTER SUCCESSFUL PADDY’S DAY PARADE

16-03-2008

Birmingham’s St Patrick’s Day Parade has been overshadowed by a double stabbing in Digbeth. The incident happened after the main event attended by 65,000 people had started to disperse.

The Stirrer’s sources suggest that violence escalated after a group of men were thrown out of the Irish Centre for fighting.

An 18-year old and a 22-year old were knifed and are currently recovering in hospital where the Police say they are “stable.”

Our understanding is that the culprit has not yet been arrested.

Drunken fights also erupted later in the afternoon outside two other Digbeth pubs, the Old Crown and the Kerryman – taking the gloss off what had otherwise been another successful Paddy’s Day celebration.
