UNDER POSTAL ORDERS

16-03-2009

The weekend rally in Bilston to prevent the part-privatisation of Royal Mail has got Brendan Hawthorne’s creative juices flowing. Funny how cash is available to bail out the banks, but not save the Post Office, eh?

The breakfast crunch
Of posties shoes
Will march to ‘Hampton
To share the views
Of those who manage
To maintain
A second class service
Despite financial constrain
Another fire-storm sale
Is on the cards
As banks are re-nationalised
The whole nine yards
The Royal Mail dis-service
Is to be flogged off in bits
To improve delivery
And accountability targets
A rubber stamp of approval
Hangs in the air
Over future prospects
And the size of the share
Will there be any dividend
Over who brings your letter?
Will lost in transit
Get any better?
Whose face will appear
In gum backed glory?
Will it make any difference
Whatever their story?
Please listen to the message
All you shelf-clearing staff
Why the sell off now?
Are you having a laugh?
Whose service is it anyway
You political recorders?
Think very carefully before giving
Away any postal orders
Privatisation is no friendly host
The nation’s not ready
To hear The Last Post
