VICTORY AS SOLDIERS WIFE FIGHTS FOR BRITISH PASSPORT

27-03-2008

The Canadian-born wife of a British soldier who was told she would have to leave her family and return home has emerged victorious after waging her own war against the Home Office. They’ve finally seen sense and granted her UK citizenship after all.

As we reported earlier this month, Samantha Crozier married husband Andrew in 2004, and followed him on military service from Canada to Germany where she was allowed to live with him without any difficulty (see link here)

Their problems only began when they tried to settle back in this country. Samantha was told that she would have to leave her two small children behind and cross the Atlantic before being allowed to apply for a British passport.

Our own military families blogger Carol Jones commented at the time: “This is a British Soldiers wife we are talking about here, not an illegal immigrant sneaking into this country in the back of a lorry!

“What is wrong with the MOD? Who's going to look after the children when Andrew is deployed at the end of the year? Perhaps, they would have got on better if she had entered illegally.”

Carol, along with other forces campaigners worked hard to untangle the red tape, and obviously someone in government was listening, because we’ve been told that Samantha has now been granted British citizenship - without having to go through the rigmarole of leaving her kids.

Carol Jones response? “We’re chuffed”.
