WEST MIDS DOLE QUEUES LENGTHEN – AGAIN! 13-11-2008 West Midlands dole queues predictably lengthened as the credit crunch and impending recession started to hit local businesses. Birmingham saw more than 2,000 extra claimants compared to this time last year – and the situation was even worse in the Black Country. In Wolverhampton alone, there were an additional 1,023 claimants, while in Walsall the figure rose by 1,109. Dudley (950 more unemployed) and Sandwell (942) were scarcely better. Birmingham’s unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) is 9% - more than double the national average of 3.6% DISCUSS THIS ON THE STIRRER FORUM |
