WHAT WAS LOST – THE MOVIE 14-05-2008 Catherine O’Flynn’s award winning novel What Was Lost – based at a fictional shopping centre that bears an uncanny similarity to Merry Hill – is being turned into a movie by the producers responsible for the Harry Potter series. British-based Heyday Films have optioned the Birmingham author’s debut, which tells the haunting tale of missing schoolgirl detective Kate Meaney. The director responsible for the recent TV drama Kid A has apparently been assigned to the film. Publishers Tindal Street Press – who began life in Balsall Heath and now have their office in Digbeth – are also working overtime to keep up with the book’s international demand. Cath, from Hall Green, has been publicising its release in the US and Australia, and it’s also being made available in a range of European languages including Italian. Readers who own the book in it’s original paperback jacket are being advised to keep it in mint condition – it could soon become a collectors’ item. The Stirrer understands that when current stocks are exhausted in the shops, it will be republished with a new glossy jacket. No more using it to to rest the coffee mug, then!
